Velutina Trap

Protecting your Bee Colonies

How it works

The hornets, attracted by the attractant, move towards the light and are caught in the collection bins.
When using for the first time, fill the container a little more than half full with the attractant.

Key Advantages

Highly Selective

Only hornets remain trapped. Insects, bees and others can easily exit.

Effective

The hornets stay alive for a certain time and attract other hornets with their pheromones.

Sanitary

The insects are never in contact with the attractant.

          Handling Instructions

Fill the attractant into the trap:

Hold the cord, press the latch and pull up to remove the roof. Put the lid on, hold the cord, squeeze the latch and slide it down.

          Precautions:

Assembling the collection containers: Slide in the direction of the arrow Separating the collection containers: Rotate the collection container approximately 30 degrees to the left or right and remove it. Be careful when removing the collection container! Hornets can come out of the holes.

          Location of the Trap:
          - Near the apiary
          - If the internal temperature of the collector is high, the hornets cannot be caught
          - Place the trap in shady areas to the left and right of the apiary
          - Avoid direct sunlight
          - Place the trap at hornet flight paths

          Description

          Advantages:

The BeeVital hornet trap is highly selective. Only hornets remain trapped!

Insects, bees and others can easily exit through the small holes at the bottom or sides of the trap. The insects are never in contact with the attractant (important for the sanitary aspect depending on the attractant).

The hornets stay alive for a certain time and attract other hornets with their pheromones !

          When to use:

For the capture of fertilized hornet queens (foundresses), very early in spring, in temperate regions already in mid-February.

Since the trap is highly selective, you can leave it in place year-round to capture the hornet workers as well. In fall, for the capture of fertilized hornet queens, in most regions from October.

          How to use:

Assemble the trap according to the instructions (package insert)

Pour the attractant into the hole by wetting the white lines next to the holes.

When using for the first time, pour the attractant up to half of the container (about 400 ML). The hornets, attracted by the liquid (attractant), enter through the small holes and move along the container. They are then captured in the collection chambers. The captured hornet pheromones will attract other hornets.

It is recommended to place the trap in the hornet's passage ways, in shaded areas, to the left and right of the hives and/or hanging from a tree (place the trap on a cord between two trees or on a branch). Avoid direct sunlight.

Refill the attractant regularly to maintain the attractiveness of the traps. Simply pour into the holes with the white sticks. A small amount of liquid is sufficient when refilling, but make sure that the container always remains about half full. (Especially at high temperatures). Only empty completely and refill again when the attractant has deteriorated significantly and no longer attracts the hornets.

          Attractant BV for hornet traps:

This attractant is entirely made of natural fermented extracts of plants and sweet substances.

It attracts a lot of insects, so there is a stirring around the trap which attracts more hornets.

And as all insects except hornets can exit, it works very effectively.

          Dosage:

400 ml for a trap when first used.
Refill the attractant regularly to maintain the attractiveness of the traps.
